East Idaho: Plan Your Visit
The Upper Snake River area of East Idaho is a wonderful place for a renaissance faire, and contains diverse landscapes from high deserts to sand dunes and towering mountain peaks. The area has many crystal clear streams and rivers. This area is the western gateway to Yellowstone National Park and Teton National Parks. East Idaho is considered to be an all-season outdoor mecca.
Things to Do in East Idaho
Rexburg & Rigby Area –
Yellowstone Bearworld, located in East Idaho, between Rigby and Rexburg, is a drive-through wildlife park. Wildlife you will see includes Rocky Mountain Elk, Bison, White-tail Deer, Mule Deer, Rocky Mountain Goats, Moose, and of course American Black Bear and Grizzly Bear.
Heisse Hot Springs is located west of Rigby, on the banks of the South Fork of the Snake River, and just minutes away from the Faire’s location. This resort offers hot springs and swimming, camping, golf, zip lines, food, and fishing.
Legacy Flight Museum gives guests the opportunity to see up some of the aircraft that United States Military Veterans flew as they served our country and provided us with the freedoms that we enjoy today.
Idaho Falls Area –
Museum of Idaho The Museum of Idaho engages, educates, and enlightens through exhibits, collections, and informal educational opportunities in the humanities and sciences. They strive to bring the world to Idaho.
Idaho Falls Zoo at Tauphus Park is a great place for a picnic and has a fun zoo.
Surrounding Area –
St. Anthony Sand Dunes are located west of St. Anthony. This area has over 10,600 acres of white quartz sand. With dunes up to 400 feet high, the sand dunes are the ultimate playground for off-road vehicle enthusiasts.
Island Park is home to a town of the same name that claims to have the longest Main Street in the world at 33 miles long. This area is home to many outdoor recreational activities, such as camping, fishing, snowmobiling and is a favorite for off-road vehicle enthusiasts. Some areas of interest are Upper and Lower Mesa Falls, Henry’s Lake, and Big Springs (a primary source of Henry’s Fork of the Snake River).
Yellowstone National Park is an otherworldly place, unlike anywhere else. Yellowstone offers truly unique experiences like spectacular hiking trails, beautiful views, Old Faithful, and geysers shooting water 100 feet into the air.
Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole, Wyoming – The Tetons rise dramatically from the surrounding grasslands. These towering peaks are snowcapped in the winter and stark gray in the summer. Jackson Hole is located about 10 miles away from Grand Teton National Park. Home to unique shopping and entertainment as well as many outdoor activities, such as snowmobiling and skiing, hiking, fishing, white water rafting, paragliding, and wildlife tours.
